On December 23, 1999, the life of 32-year-old Timothy R. Ott was tragically cut short in his Easley, South Carolina, home. A quiet evening turned into a scene of terror when Dallen Forrest Bounds, a 28-year-old white male, forced his way into the residence through a living room window. Inside, Bounds first encountered and fatally shot Timothy's ex-wife, 33-year-old Sandra 'Sandi' Roberts Ott, in the kitchen.
Their 5-year-old son was asleep in his bedroom and was later found unharmed.
In a desperate attempt to get help, Timothy fled to a neighbor's house. However, Bounds pursued him, entering the neighbor's home and shooting Timothy in the head, causing his death. The neighbor, who was present during the horrific event, was later found physically unharmed but hiding in a closet. After the murders, Bounds fled the scene, sparking a manhunt.
The search for Bounds came to an end at another residence in Easley where he had taken two women hostage. As law enforcement closed in, Bounds took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. This act brought an end to his violent rampage but left many questions in its wake.
Subsequent investigations revealed the true extent of Bounds's crimes. Authorities connected him to the murders of Jonathan Lemuel Lara, a Radio Shack employee, and Karen Moore Hayden, a florist, both of which also occurred in 1999. These revelations painted a grim picture of a serial killer whose violent spree had tragically culminated in the deaths of Timothy and Sandra Ott. An accomplice of Bounds in the murder of Jonathan Lara, Casandra Laster, was later found guilty of accessory after the fact to felony murder.
