Joyce Thomas, a 37-year-old African American woman, was tragically murdered on October 31, 1988. Her death was the result of a brutal attack that shocked the community and led to an extensive investigation. Joyce was found dead in her apartment in Ville Platte, Louisiana, with multiple stab wounds. The investigation revealed that she had been abducted and sexually assaulted before being killed. The perpetrator, Phillip Dewoody, was eventually identified and arrested for her murder.
