Deputy Constable James A. Reed, aged 28, was fatally shot on September 2, 1905, in Houston, Texas. Reed, who served with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable's Office for only four months, was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a burglary suspect when he was shot in the abdomen. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries four days later on September 6, 1905.
