On December 19, 2008, at approximately 4:55 a.m., 40-year-old Jose Alvarenga was fatally shot during a home invasion at his residence on Avenue V in Houston, Texas. Alvarenga was awakened by a loud noise and discovered two suspects who had forcibly entered through the back door. One suspect, described as a Hispanic male in his late teens to early 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a skinny build, held Alvarenga at gunpoint and ordered him to the ground. The second suspect, also a Hispanic male in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a chubby build, went upstairs and forced Alvarenga's daughters to lie on the ground next to their father. Both suspects repeatedly demanded money from the family. When Alvarenga failed to produce any money, he was shot in the chest. The suspects then fled the scene in an older model white van with a sliding door. Despite the release of composite sketches of the suspects, no arrests have been made. The Houston Police Department continues to seek information from the public to assist in solving this case.
