Dave Bahl, a 28-year-old male, was tragically killed on August 9, 1982, in Grand Prairie, Texas. The incident occurred during a violent rampage by John Felton Parish, a 49-year-old truck driver who went on a shooting spree at two warehouses in the area. Parish, who was reportedly upset over a pay dispute with his employer, Western Transfer & Storage Inc., armed himself with an M-1 carbine, a .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a .38-caliber revolver.
He began his rampage at the Western warehouse office, where he killed several of his supervisors before moving on to other locations.
During the rampage, Parish entered the Jewel T warehouse, where Dave Bahl and another individual, Rick Svoboda, were working. Parish shot and killed both Bahl and Svoboda, and wounded another employee, Robert Sarabia, 30. The shooting spree lasted approximately 25 minutes and resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to three others.
Following the shootings, Parish stole a semi-trailer truck and led police on a high-speed chase through downtown Grand Prairie. The chase ended when Parish crashed the truck into a building after breaking through a police barricade. Parish was subsequently shot and killed by police during a shootout.
The incident was one of the worst shooting rampages in the history of the Dallas-Fort Worth area at the time. Parish had no prior criminal record and was described by his supervisors as an easy-going person. However, he had been experiencing personal and professional difficulties, including a recent child-custody battle and the death of his older sister from cancer.
There were no arrests or suspects other than Parish, as he was the sole perpetrator of the shootings. The investigation concluded that Parish acted alone, driven by his grievances and personal issues. The case did not result in any further litigations or law cases related to the deaths of the victims.
