On October 11, 1983, Juan Garza, a 30-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically killed in College Station, Texas. The assailant, Eliseo Hernandez Moreno, was the brother-in-law of Juan Garza. Moreno's violent spree began with the fatal shootings of Juan Garza and his wife, Esther Garza. This initial act of violence was reportedly triggered by Moreno's estrangement from his own wife, Blanca.
Following the murders of Juan and Esther Garza, Moreno continued his rampage, resulting in the deaths of six individuals in total. Among the victims was Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Russell Lynn Boyd, a 25-year-old Caucasian male, who was fatally shot after stopping Moreno for a traffic violation near Hempstead, Texas. Additionally, Moreno killed three elderly residents in Hempstead: Ann Bennatt, 70, her sister Allie Wilkins, 79, and her brother-in-law James Bennatt, 62.
Eliseo Hernandez Moreno was apprehended on the same day of the murders. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Trooper Boyd. Moreno was executed by lethal injection in Texas on March 4, 1987.
