Chief Deputy Sheriff David W. Jones, aged 59, was shot and killed on November 9, 1988, while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a trailer home in Proctor, Texas. The incident occurred around 1:45 am when Jones approached the home and was shot by a male subject with a .22 caliber rifle. The shooter then proceeded to kill his ex-wife as she attempted to flee the scene. After wounding a neighbor who came to investigate the disturbance, the shooter took his own life.
