Arlie Jones, a 48-year-old Caucasian male, was a dedicated police officer in Odessa, Texas. On September 8, 2007, he tragically lost his life in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call. Alongside him, Corporal Scott Gardner was also killed, and Corporal Abel Marquez was critically injured. The suspect, Larry White, opened fire on the officers as they attempted to gain entry into the home. After a four-hour standoff, White was taken into custody.
Unfortunately, he passed away from cancer before standing trial.
The incident led to a thorough investigation by the Texas Rangers, who charged White with two counts of capital murder and three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer. The tragic loss of Arlie Jones and Corporal Gardner deeply affected the Odessa community, and their funerals were attended by numerous law enforcement officers and community members.
Arlie Jones was remembered for his 23 years of service, his dedication to community outreach programs like the "Teddy Bear" program, and his unwavering faith. He left behind a grieving family, including his wife Rhonda, daughters Kathleen, Chelsea, Shanna, Mandy, and Shonda, and five grandchildren. His legacy continues to inspire those who knew him and serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers every day.
