Douglas Scott Goeble, a 26-year-old male police officer with the San Antonio Police Department, tragically lost his life on April 18, 1991. Officer Goeble was shot while eating lunch in a local restaurant. The incident occurred after a suspect, who had just had an argument with his girlfriend in the parking lot, entered the restaurant, went into the bathroom, and then shot Officer Goeble in the head as he exited the restroom.
The suspect also shot and killed his girlfriend before being apprehended.
The suspect was arrested and later sentenced to life in prison. Officer Goeble succumbed to his injuries two days after the shooting, on April 20, 1991. He had served with the San Antonio Police Department for 18 months and in law enforcement for a total of five years. Officer Goeble was survived by his fiancée, daughter, parents, and two sisters.
