Steven Charles Dody, a 43-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, was one of the victims of the tragic Luby's massacre in Killeen, Texas, on October 16, 1991. Dody, a decorated Vietnam veteran and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, was at the Luby's Cafeteria when George Jo Hennard drove his pickup truck through the front window and began shooting.
Hennard, who had a history of mental health issues and a troubled past, killed 23 people, including himself, and wounded 27 others before committing suicide.
The investigation into the massacre revealed that Hennard had no known motive for the attack, although he had expressed anger and frustration about his life circumstances in the past. The incident led to significant changes in Texas gun laws, with the state legislature passing a shall-issue concealed carry law in 1995, allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons with the proper permit.
