On May 18, 2004, 19-year-old Kimberlie Lynn Tijerina, a young Hispanic woman from Waco, Texas, was tragically killed. Reports indicate that she died as a result of gun violence.

Authorities identified her boyfriend, Mendez, as the perpetrator. Prior to this incident, Mendez had a documented history of abusing Kimberlie and had been previously arrested on charges of assault against her.
