Dustin Donovan Smith, a 19-year-old male, tragically lost his life on October 27, 2013, in La Grange, Texas. Smith was attending a Halloween party at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall at the Fayette County Fairgrounds when an altercation broke out. During the altercation, JaKyle Harris, an 18-year-old Weimar High School football player, shot Smith in the back with a shotgun. Smith was rushed to St. Mark's Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.
