Johnny Solis, a 79-year-old Hispanic male, passed away on December 11, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was survived by his wife, Mary L. Solis, and several children and grandchildren. His funeral was held at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, and he was interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
However, there was another Johnny Solis, known as "Smiley," who was a member of the Texas Mexican Mafia .
This Johnny Solis was murdered on January 13, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. He was killed by Ruben Reyes, also known as "Menace," a TMM member, along with two other TMM members, Mark Anthony Bernal and Carlos Chapa. The murders were allegedly due to mishandling of money and poor decisions in TMM operations. Reyes transported and buried the bodies of Bernal, Chapa, and Solis in Pearsall, Texas.
Reyes was arrested and charged with the murders, facing up to life in federal prison if convicted. He later pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted to his role in the murders. The investigation was conducted by the FBI, San Antonio Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
