Justin Matthew Laravie II, a 22-year-old male of mixed ethnicity, tragically passed away on July 29, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. Laravie was born on June 25, 1997, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was known for his talents in skating and singing. He was described as funny, caring, and always looking out for those around him. His death was ruled a homicide, and he was shot in the head inside his apartment at the Rosemont at Bethel Place Apartments on the West Side of San Antonio.

Guzman, a 19-year-old acquaintance of Laravie's roommate, Marc Hernandez, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Hernandez, who was also shot but survived, identified Guzman as the shooter. Guzman was later found rummaging through Laravie's belongings in the apartment. The incident was believed to be narcotics-related.
In May 2023, Brandon Guzman was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the murder of Justin Laravie. The jury found Guzman guilty of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Marc Hernandez. Guzman must serve at least 30 years before he is eligible for parole. The case remains pending with two other aggravated assault charges against Guzman.
