On March 5, 2014, 46-year-old Marvin Young was found dead in his west Houston home, located in the 8600 block of Friendship. Authorities reported that he had been shot multiple times with a shotgun, succumbing to his injuries in the doorway of the bedroom he shared with his former girlfriend, Robin McCall. McCall, then 45 years old, was subsequently charged with his murder.
In her statement to the police, McCall claimed that the shooting was accidental.
She recounted that she had been ill in bed for several days when Young invited guests over to their home. An argument ensued after she demanded that the guests leave or she would. During the confrontation, McCall began packing her belongings, including a shotgun. She alleged that she tripped over a basket in the hallway, causing the firearm to discharge and fatally wound Young.
Witnesses, however, provided accounts of a tumultuous and violent relationship between the couple. One individual reported that McCall had previously set Young's leg on fire, while another mentioned that she frequently brandished the shotgun, ordering visitors to leave the premises. Additionally, a witness recalled an incident two years prior when McCall shot Young in the arm with a .22-caliber pistol. There were also reports of McCall pointing firearms at Young on multiple occasions, with Young challenging her to shoot, only for the guns to be unloaded at those times.
Following a year-long investigation, McCall was arrested and charged with murder in March 2015. Her bond was set at $50,000. The case highlighted the history of domestic violence between the couple, ultimately leading to the tragic death of Marvin Young, a 46-year-old man from Houston.
