Justin Javier Gonzalez, a 24-year-old Hispanic male from Waco, Texas, tragically passed away on May 13, 2014. Justin was born on April 7, 1990, in Waco to Francisco and Mary Helen Gonzalez. He worked as a concrete finisher at Gonzalez Concrete Construction. Justin was a father to two children, Renessa Celeste Gonzalez and Ryan Justin Gonzalez, with their mother, Adriana Gonzales, all of Waco. He was also expecting another child with Amber Campos of Waco.
Justin was preceded in death by his grandfather, Guadalupe Rodriguez, and other family members.
The circumstances surrounding Justin's death were tragic and violent. On May 12, 2014, Justin and his cousin, Ulysses Gonzalez, were involved in a shooting incident at an apartment located at the intersection of 26th Street and Grim Avenue in Waco. Both men were killed in the incident. The police investigation revealed that five hours before the double homicide, Tony Olivarez, 34, and another suspect were involved in an altercation with a person in the 2300 block of Morrow Avenue, who managed to escape unharmed.
Tony Olivarez was later found guilty of capital murder for his involvement in the shooting that resulted in the deaths of Justin Javier Gonzalez and Ulysses Gonzalez. Olivarez was sentenced to life without parole. The McLennan County District Attorney's Office confirmed the ruling, and the case was a significant event in the local community.
