On November 12, 2009, police in Kansas City, Missouri, were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Askew Avenue after receiving a report of a possible death. Upon arrival at the home, officers encountered two children, aged 12 and 9, who had discovered their mother unresponsive inside. The victim was identified as 49-year-old Halimo A. Ismail, also referred to in some reports as Halimo Ahmed. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators immediately labeled the death suspicious
