In the late evening hours of May 18, 2023, 25-year-old Kevin Cross was tragically killed in a violent shooting incident that unfolded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, rather than St. Louis as initially suggested. The fatal encounter occurred near the intersection of 50th Street and Hampton Avenue, where police officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered Cross lying unresponsive outside the driver's side door of a vehicle.
Despite the immediate response of emergency services, he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators located approximately ten bullet casings scattered around the area, with forensic analysis later indicating that a significant barrage of gunfire had been directed at the car Cross had been driving.
The subsequent investigation by Milwaukee detectives uncovered a harrowing motive behind the ambush. According to criminal complaints and court documents, the shooting was the result of a targeted armed robbery. It was revealed that the perpetrators had planned to rob Cross not only of his money but also of his pit bull. Fingerprint evidence recovered from the vehicle played a crucial role in identifying the individuals involved. The forensic analysis linked the prints to a surviving victim who had been in the car with Cross, as well as to one of the suspects. Testimony provided to police detailed how the assailants approached the parked vehicle, opened the doors, and opened fire, striking Cross and leaving him fatally injured while the other occupant managed to survive the attack.
Law enforcement efforts led to the identification and charging of three suspects in connection with the murder. Zavionn Terrell, 25, was identified as a key participant in the crime. In May 2025, Terrell entered a guilty plea to a charge of felony murder, with an additional gun possession charge dismissed as part of a plea agreement. In July 2025, a Milwaukee County judge sentenced him to 21 years in prison, followed by 12 years of extended supervision. Two other men were also implicated in the plot: Antonio Carr and Jevon Simmons. Carr was accused of planning the robbery and communicating Cross's location to his accomplices. Simmons, who was arrested on an unrelated matter in March 2025, reportedly admitted to his involvement in the armed robbery scheme during police interviews. Both Carr and Simmons faced charges of felony murder as the legal proceedings continued to address their roles in the senseless loss of Kevin Cross's life.
