Ignacio Aragon, a 42-year-old man from San Antonio, Texas, tragically lost his life on January 17, 2015. He was one of two victims in a shooting incident that occurred outside the Flying Tiger Sports Bar on Southeast Military Drive. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m., when a fight inside the bar escalated and spilled outside, leading to the shooting.
Witnesses reported that a man, later identified as Santiago Hernandez, got into an altercation with Aragon and another victim,
Michael Garcia, inside the bar. When the fight moved outside, Hernandez returned with a firearm and opened fire on both Aragon and Garcia. Aragon succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Garcia was pronounced dead later at a hospital despite efforts to revive him.
Following the shooting, Hernandez fled the scene but was apprehended by police later that day at his residence. During the arrest, officers also captured Hernandez's son, Dillon Soto, who was found with three guns and drugs at the home. Hernandez was charged with capital murder, while Soto faced charges of evading arrest and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
The case drew significant attention, and in a plea deal, Hernandez was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 2016. He will be eligible for parole in 20 years. The court proceedings revealed that Hernandez claimed he felt threatened by the victims and believed he was targeted by the Mexican Mafia, although no evidence supported this claim.
Ignacio Aragon is remembered fondly by his family and friends as a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. His death left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him, and his family continues to seek justice for his untimely passing.
