Dawn Giffa, a 28-year-old woman from Kingston, Ontario, tragically lost her life on February 22, 2015, in Killeen, Texas. She was the wife of Ata-se Giffa, a soldier stationed at Fort Hood. The incident occurred during a domestic disturbance call at their residence in the 1700 block of Godman Street. Dawn Giffa was studying to be a pharmacy technician and was the mother of a three-year-old son.
The suspect, Ata-se Giffa, aged 30, had a history of domestic disputes with his wife.
On the night of the incident, he fatally shot his neighbors, Lydia Farina and Larry Guzman , before forcing his wife to return home with him. Once back at their residence, Ata-se Giffa shot Dawn Giffa and then took his own life. A fifth victim, a 41-year-old woman, was seriously injured and transported to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
The Killeen Police Department and the Army's Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation into the incident. The case was treated as a murder-suicide, and no further arrests or suspects were identified.
