On July 22, 2024, at approximately 8:39 p.m., Killeen Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving an armed individual at a residence in the 1300 block of Karen Drive. Upon entering the home, officers discovered 28-year-old Tanesha Sedwick and her husband, 29-year-old Walter Sedwick, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced Tanesha dead at 8:46 p.m.
and Walter at 8:48 p.m., ordering autopsies for both at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas.
Investigations revealed that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Walter fatally shooting Tanesha before taking his own life. Tragically, he also killed their two dogs during the incident.
Family members expressed profound grief and shock over the loss. John Haywood, Tanesha's father, described her as the youngest of four children with a heart of gold, stating, "That smile lit up the room." He mentioned being aware of an argument between Tanesha and Walter the week prior but never anticipated such a tragic outcome. Tanesha's aunt, Stephanie Washington, referred to her niece as an angel and emphasized the importance of addressing domestic violence, noting that it can affect any family.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family is advocating for increased awareness of domestic violence. They urge individuals in similar situations to speak out and seek help, emphasizing that support is available through various organizations dedicated to assisting victims of domestic abuse.
