Justin Coleman, a 42-year-old man from Cedar Creek, Texas, was tragically killed on April 16, 2015. The incident occurred early in the morning at his residence on Northside Lane. Witnesses reported hearing a heated argument between Coleman and another man, followed by the sound of gunfire. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Coleman dead from a gunshot wound. The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office quickly identified the suspect as Calton Hayes Weir, a 24-year-old man who was known to Coleman. Both men had prior felony records.
The investigation revealed that the altercation between Coleman and Weir stemmed from a dispute over money that Coleman allegedly owed Weir. On the night of the incident, Weir, accompanied by two other men, arrived at Coleman's residence to confront him about the debt. The situation escalated when Coleman, armed with a shotgun and a pistol, threatened to retaliate against Weir and his companions. Despite attempts to defuse the situation, the confrontation turned violent, resulting in Coleman being shot multiple times.
Following the shooting, Weir fled the scene with his accomplices. A warrant for Weir's arrest was issued, and he was eventually apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in San Antonio. Weir was taken into custody and held on a $1 million bond. However, due to delays in the prosecution's ability to bring an indictment within the required 90-day period, Weir was released on a personal recognizance bond.
