Rev. Virgilio Elizondo, an 80-year-old Mexican-American Catholic priest and renowned theologian, died on March 14, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. He was widely recognized as the "father of U.S. Latino religious thought" and had a significant impact on Latino theology. Elizondo was a professor at the University of Notre Dame and had served as the rector at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio.
