Peter Pina, a 33-year-old Hispanic male, was tragically shot and killed on June 14, 2016, at the Electric Chair Tattoo & Piercing shop in Houston, Texas. Pina, a body piercing technician and father of three boys, was working at the shop when the incident occurred. He was known for his dedication to his family, often working multiple jobs to support his sons. On the night of the shooting, Abdul-Rahman Khan, a 21-year-old male, entered the shop with a friend who wanted a tattoo.
Khan wandered into an employee-only area where equipment was sterilized. When Pina and another employee asked him to leave, Khan refused. As Pina's co-worker attempted to escort Khan out, Khan pulled out a gun and shot Pina in the chest. Pina was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, Khan was arrested and charged with murder. He was held on a $50,000 bail. The case went to trial, and Khan was found guilty of murder. In April 2023, Khan, now 27 years old, was sentenced to 50 years in prison and fined $10,000. During the trial, it was revealed that Khan had several pending charges in Dallas, including an incident where he pointed a gun at police officers. The jury was shown body-worn camera footage of Khan pointing a gun at officers during his arrest in Dallas. The conviction and sentencing brought some measure of justice to Pina's family, who had been devastated by the loss of a hardworking and loving father.
Pina's death left a significant impact on his family and the community. His mother, Sylvia Rocha, and his sisters, Aurora Martinez and Andrea Rocha, spoke about his dedication to his family and his willingness to help others. The family had recently lost their home in Rosenberg to flooding, adding to their hardships. Fundraisers were organized to help cover Pina's funeral expenses, and the community rallied to support his family during this difficult time.
