Alexis Carol Johnson, a 23-year-old woman from Longview, Texas, tragically lost her life on August 26, 2016. She was fatally shot in the 400 block of Johnston Street in Longview. The incident was part of a double homicide, with Mele'kia Rae Montgomery, 25, also falling victim to the same attack.
The investigation into Alexis Johnson's death led to the arrest of Jordan Malik Carter, a 19-year-old at the time, who was identified as a gang member.
Carter was arrested three days after the shooting when he was found in a car driven by a woman and later identified at a motel in Longview. During his arrest, Carter attempted to flee and discarded a loaded .45 caliber firearm into a wooded area. He was charged with capital murder and later pleaded guilty to the murders of both Alexis Johnson and Mele'kia Rae Montgomery.
In February 2022, Jordan Malik Carter was sentenced to two life terms for the murders. He will be required to serve at least 30 years before becoming eligible for parole. The Gregg County Criminal District Attorney’s Office expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and hoped that the outcome brought some closure and comfort.
The case highlighted the efforts of the Longview Police Department and other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. Despite the tragic loss, the pursuit of justice provided some measure of solace to the grieving families.
