On the evening of July 10, 2011, officers from the Kansas City Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 38th Street and Wayne Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon arrival, they began canvassing the neighborhood and discovered a white Cadillac resting against a fence near the intersection of 38th Street and Flora Avenue. Inside the vehicle, they found 33-year-old Jerry C. Johnson, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
