Essence Derouen, a 21-year-old African American woman from Houston, Texas, tragically lost her life on March 19, 2017. She was fatally shot while sitting in her car near Club Panda in north Houston. Derouen was alone in her vehicle, waiting for traffic to clear after leaving the club, when an unknown male suspect approached her car and began firing shots. One of the bullets struck Derouen, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled in a light-colored Buick sedan.
