Laverne Hudson Holmes, a 64-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, tragically passed away on April 7, 2017. She was one of the victims in a horrific murder-suicide incident that took place at two different locations in Houston. The incident involved Laverne's daughter, Dekitta Holmes, who went on a shooting spree, killing her sister, stepfather, and another man before taking her own life.
Laverne was critically wounded during the incident and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries three days later.
The investigation revealed that Dekitta Holmes, aged 29, had also committed an additional murder in Fresno, Texas, before returning to Houston to carry out the shootings. The authorities believe that Dekitta first killed her sister, Carolyn Holmes, at her home in Fresno, and then drove to her mother's home in Houston, where she shot Laverne and killed her stepfather, Robert Lee Wesley, aged 65. Dekitta then proceeded to another nearby home, where she shot and killed Jocheralline Lamont Murphy, aged 42.
The case was linked to an aggravated assault and multiple murders, and the investigation involved the Houston Police Department and the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. The tragic incident left a community in mourning and raised questions about the factors that led to such a devastating event.
