Pvt. Justin Antwan Lewis, a 19-year-old African American soldier from Henderson, North Carolina, was tragically shot and killed on April 17, 2017, in Killeen, Texas. Lewis had enlisted in the Army in August 2016 and was assigned to the 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood in February 2017. He was found unresponsive by Killeen police officers after responding to a call of shots fired near a vacant lot. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene, and his death was ruled a homicide.
