Bertha Saenz, a 53-year-old woman of Hispanic ethnicity from Corpus Christi, Texas, tragically passed away on May 5, 2017. She was a beloved aunt, great-aunt, cousin, daughter, and sister who was known for her vibrant personality and love for music. Bertha did not have any children of her own but was deeply involved in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The circumstances surrounding Bertha's death were determined to be a murder-suicide.
Corpus Christi Police Department responded to a call at a home in the 1600 block of Karen Drive, where they found Bertha and a man, Daniel Florez, both in their early 50s, dead inside the home. According to relatives, Bertha and Daniel were in an on-and-off relationship. Neighbors described the street as quiet, and there was no history of domestic violence reported at the residence.
The investigation revealed that Daniel Florez killed Bertha and then turned the gun on himself. Police found a gun at the scene and took one dog into custody until relatives could retrieve it. The autopsy confirmed that Bertha died from gunshot wounds, and the case was ruled a murder-suicide.
No arrests were made in connection with Bertha's death, as the incident was determined to be a result of the actions of Daniel Florez. The CCPD continued to investigate the case to ensure all details were thoroughly examined.
Bertha's family and friends remember her fondly and continue to honor her memory. Her funeral was held at Holy Family Catholic Church, followed by inurnment at Memory Gardens cemetery.
