Oziel Garcia, an 18-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. Garcia was a recent high school graduate who had plans to attend the University of North Texas. He was known to be a quiet, shy, and hardworking individual who loved music and inspired his younger siblings.
On the night of his death, Garcia had returned home from watching fireworks in Addison with his friend, Jose Soto.
Around 12:38 AM, Garcia parked his red Chevrolet truck outside his apartment complex and entered the breezeway. Shortly after, residents heard a gunshot, and Garcia was found lying in a pool of blood with a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The investigation revealed that Garcia's truck and wallet were missing from the scene, leading authorities to believe that he was the victim of a robbery gone wrong. Surveillance footage from the apartment complex showed two unidentified men near Garcia's truck just before the shooting. The suspects were seen running away with the truck immediately after the gunshot.
Several arrests were made in connection to Garcia's murder. Kristi Starrett, 32, and her boyfriend, Deavian Hill, 26, were arrested on charges related to the crime. Additionally, a 15-year-old juvenile implicated himself and was arrested for capital murder. The police also conducted a manhunt for another suspect believed to be involved in the carjacking and murder.
