Marcus De'Shaun "Lil' Ike" Mitchell, Sr., a 37-year-old African American male from Beaumont, Texas, tragically passed away on June 7, 2018. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds on a stairwell at the Cypress Bend Apartments on North Major Drive. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaumont EMS.
The investigation into his death revealed that two suspects, Kendrick Malbrough and Jaquavian Mayberry, were involved.
Malbrough was identified as a person of interest and was found hiding under a residence after a brief chase. Both Malbrough and Mayberry were taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail. Mayberry was charged with failure to identify as a fugitive and possession of a controlled substance.
In September 2020, the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force took Jaquavian Mayberry into custody in connection with Mitchell's murder. Detectives continued to seek additional information and charges against other suspects involved in the homicide.
The case remains a significant point of focus for Beaumont police, as they work to bring justice for Marcus Mitchell and his family.
