On September 12, 2018, 16-year-old Lourdes Sandoval, known to friends as "Betty," was tragically shot and killed outside her home in Houston, Texas. The victim, a young Hispanic female, was ambushed by her ex-boyfriend, Irbin Vargas, who was 22 years old at the time. Sandoval had texted Vargas to end their relationship after he had previously threatened her and held a gun to her head.
