Nicholas Andrew Trey Milanovich, a 23-year-old male, tragically lost his life on September 30, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas. He was shot while sleeping in his apartment, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The incident also claimed the life of his 21-year-old female roommate, Julia Wright, who was shot as she slept and later died from blood loss while trying to escape the apartment for help.

The investigation into their deaths led to the arrest of Jilson Avelar-Rodriguez, a 23-year-old male, who was later charged with capital murder. Evidence found at his girlfriend's residence, including ammunition similar to that used in the crime and a lockbox belonging to Wright, linked him to the murders. Avelar-Rodriguez was eventually found at a federal immigration detention facility and brought to Bexar County to face charges.

In January 2024, Avelar-Rodriguez was sentenced to life without parole for the murders of Milanovich and Wright. The Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe D. Gonzales expressed relief that justice had been served and hoped that the families of the victims could find some closure.

The case was a significant one for the San Antonio community, highlighting the importance of thorough investigations and the pursuit of justice for victims and their families.
