On the morning of July 25, 2013, Antonious Cortez Davis, a 34-year-old Black man, arrived at a residence in Kansas City, Missouri, intending to visit a friend. He parked his vehicle near the home in the 6600 block of Olive Avenue, unaware that a crime was already in progress inside the house he was approaching. As he reached the property, he was suddenly confronted by individuals who were in the midst of burglarizing the residence.
The encounter quickly escalated into violence when the intruders opened fire. Neighbors in the area reported hearing the sound of gunshots around 11:25 a.m. and immediately alerted the authorities. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim lying mortally wounded in the street, not far from where he had parked. Although emergency responders attended to him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Years later, the investigation into this fatal shooting has not yielded an arrest. The case remains listed among the unsolved homicides maintained by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. Detectives determined that the victim did not live in the neighborhood and had simply arrived at the wrong moment during the break-in. Authorities have continued to ask for information from the public that might help identify the suspects responsible for the burglary and subsequent murder, but no charges have been filed.
