On July 5, 2012, Anthony Suarez, a 27-year-old resident of Chicago, was shot and killed in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. as Anthony was riding in a vehicle in the 1800 block of West 45th Street. Another vehicle pulled up alongside his, and a gunman inside opened fire, striking him multiple times in the chest. Anthony was transported to John H. Stroger Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
