Tyshun Darty, a 22-year-old man from Marshall, Texas, tragically lost his life on March 18, 2019. He was fatally shot in the 1200 block of Elsie Street around 11:30 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found Darty injured and a nurse performing CPR on him. He was quickly transported to CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Medical Center, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the incident identified Nathan Irving, a 20-year-old resident of Marshall, as
the shooter. Irving was charged with murder and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was taken into custody the following morning and booked into the Harrison County Jail.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Nathan Irving faced legal proceedings for his involvement in Darty's death. On April 7, 2023, Irving pled guilty to the murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The sentence was to run concurrently with time already served, reflecting the gravity of the crime and the judicial system's response to it.
The case brought significant attention to issues of gun violence and the impact on local communities. The loss of Tyshun Darty, a young man with his whole life ahead of him, was a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of such violence.
