On March 20, 2019, 19-year-old Luis Gutierrez was fatally shot in east Houston. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. in the 5500 block of Arapahoe, near San Juan and Sakowitz streets. Upon arrival, Houston police officers discovered the young Hispanic male lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported that Gutierrez was engaged in a shootout with individuals in a dark-colored SUV, possibly black.
A nearby resident, Tommy Taylor, recounted seeing Gutierrez firing back at the SUV before it sped away. The emotional distress of Gutierrez's loved ones was palpable at the scene, with some requiring medical attention due to the severity of their grief. As of the following morning, Houston Police Department homicide detectives had limited leads beyond the description of the suspect vehicle. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact HPD's Homicide Division or Houston Crime Stoppers.
In a separate incident in Arlington, Texas, two teenagers were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 55-year-old Khudhair Hamdan on March 21, 2023. Luis Gutierrez, 18, and Cristian Saucedo, 19, both Hispanic males, were charged with capital murder after allegedly killing Hamdan during a test drive of a car he was attempting to sell. The suspects had arranged the meeting through social media and, during the test drive, reportedly shot Hamdan before abandoning the vehicle. Gutierrez was apprehended during a traffic stop in Dallas, while Saucedo was arrested at his residence. Both are currently facing capital murder charges.
It is important to note that the Luis Gutierrez involved in the 2023 Arlington incident is a different individual from the 19-year-old Luis Gutierrez who was killed in Houston in 2019. As of now, there have been no reported arrests or identification of suspects in the 2019 case. The investigation into the death of the 19-year-old Hispanic male from Houston remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
