Jannerra Williams, a 28-year-old man from Austin, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on May 5, 2019, at the Quality Inn Hotel located at 7928 Gessner Drive. The incident occurred when Williams was in his hotel room, and people nearby reported hearing a loud bang before seeing three men and a woman running out of the room. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:31 p.m.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with Williams' death: Jerome Yancey, Roosevelt Haynes, Timothy
Bowie, and Doris Mabry-Walker. According to court documents, Mabry-Walker met Williams through the dating app "Plenty of Fish" and arranged for the other suspects to come to Williams' hotel room to buy marijuana. However, the situation escalated into a robbery, and Williams was fatally shot.
Jerome Yancey was convicted of murder on March 28, 2023, and sentenced to prison. Roosevelt Haynes pled guilty to the murder in August 2022. Timothy Bowie's trial was scheduled for later in the month, and Doris Mabry-Walker's case was still pending at the time.
The Travis County District Attorney's Office has been committed to holding those responsible for Williams' death accountable. The family of Jannerra Williams hopes that the convictions and ongoing legal proceedings will bring closure and peace.
