Luis Angel Santiago, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, tragically died on June 18, 2019, in Killeen, Texas. Santiago was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Fleetwood Drive after police responded to reports of shots being fired. He was taken to Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights in critical condition but was pronounced dead a little over an hour later.
Four individuals were arrested in connection with Santiago's death.
Eric David Madden, 21, Dexter Gervard Washington, 46, Shyheem Jubar Washington, 20, and a 15-year-old juvenile were all charged with murder. The suspects were believed to have been involved in an argument with Santiago before the shooting occurred. Madden and Dexter Washington were also linked to another shooting incident that took place on May 30, 2019.
In January 2023, Eric David Madden was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the murder of Luis Angel Santiago. The other suspects faced significant legal consequences, with bonds set at over $1,000,000 each.
The case drew significant attention from the local community, and Santiago's family and friends held a balloon release in his honor to commemorate his life. The legal proceedings and arrests underscore the serious nature of the crime and the impact it had on Santiago's loved ones and the community at large.
