Daniel "Danny" Joseph Tausch, a 62-year-old male, passed away on July 23, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on April 14, 1957, in Seguin, Texas, to Edna Woerndel and Edmond Adolph Willie Tausch Jr. Danny was a resident of Floresville for ten years and a former resident of Spring Branch. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edmond Tausch III.
Danny is survived by his wife, Janet Krause Tausch, and his siblings, Joyce Tausch, Marlene Allen, and Randy Tausch.
On the day of his death, Danny Tausch was fatally shot while attempting to break up a fistfight between two women. The incident occurred in the 11600 block of Palo Alto in San Antonio. Witnesses reported that Danny intervened in an argument involving Gavino Vara, a 51-year-old male, who was having a disagreement with several people over electrical work. During the altercation, Vara's girlfriend and another woman began fighting outside the building. Danny, trying to de-escalate the situation, yelled for everyone to stop fighting or he would get his gun. In response, Vara told Danny to grab his gun before placing his weapon on Danny's chest and firing a single shot from point-blank range. Danny sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and back, leading to his death.
Following the shooting, witnesses rushed to help Danny, but Vara allegedly told them to let him die and warned them not to say anything. Fearing for their safety, witnesses did not immediately call 911. Danny's body was discovered the next day in the bed of a pickup truck on Mauermann Road. Homicide detectives arrested Gavino Vara without incident, and he was charged with murder in connection to Danny's death. The indictment against Vara included a repeat offender enhancement due to his previous convictions for felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The case is pending in the 187th District Court.
