Emmett, a former Texas Tech basketball star and professional basketball player, was shot and killed during a robbery outside his home. The incident occurred after Emmett was followed from a nightclub to his residence by three men. Upon parking in his garage, he was confronted by the assailants who demanded two chains and a watch he was wearing. A witness reported that Larry Daquan Jenkins, one of the assailants, fatally shot Emmett before the group fled the scene.
The Dallas County jury found Larry Daquan Jenkins, a 25-year-old male, guilty of capital murder in the killing of Andre Emmett. Jenkins was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, as prosecutors did not seek the death penalty. The conviction was based on evidence including cellphone data that placed Jenkins at both the nightclub and Emmett's home, as well as home surveillance video footage of the crime.
