On January 31, 2020, 23-year-old Keshun Riggins was found dead inside a burning home in El Campo, Texas. The incident occurred after a woman reported a shooting at the residence around 1 a.m. When police arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames and heard a woman screaming from inside. The woman, identified as 21-year-old Kaydra Sparks, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a hospital for surgery.
As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, they discovered Keshun Riggins' body inside the house. Riggins was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Janice Bluntson, Riggins' grandmother, he had been living with her since his mother was incarcerated over 20 years ago. Bluntson mentioned that Riggins was a good kid but had been involved in drug dealing and was trying to compete with other individuals in the area. She believed that the shooting and subsequent fire were acts of retaliation for a drug deal gone bad. El Campo Police Chief Terry Stanphill did not confirm the drug-related nature of the case but acknowledged that the home had been a frequent location for drug-related activities.
The investigation into Keshun Riggins' death involved multiple agencies, including the El Campo Police Department, the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal, and the Texas Rangers. Despite the extensive investigation, no arrests or suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Riggins' death.
