On March 29, 2020, Kaitlyn Silverio, a 20-year-old woman from Temple, Texas, was tragically murdered in Killeen, Texas. She was found lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound and was later airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, where she succumbed to her injuries. The incident occurred during a narcotics transaction.
Two suspects, De'Juana Monte Williams, 18, and Cedric Vernon Henderson Jr., 19, were arrested and charged with Silverio's murder.
Williams turned herself into the police headquarters, while Henderson was apprehended without incident. Both suspects were held in the Killeen City Jail with their bonds set at $1 million each.
Investigators determined that the original intent of the defendants was to rip off Silverio during the drug deal by using counterfeit money. However, the situation escalated, and guns were pulled, leading to Henderson shooting Silverio in the chest. Earlier this year, Henderson pled guilty to his role in the murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Williams, who initially pleaded not guilty, later changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The case brought closure to Silverio's family and highlighted the dangers associated with narcotics transactions. The sentencing of both suspects ensures that justice was served for the young victim.
