Jordan Allen Jr., a 5-year-old Black boy known to his family as “Baby J,” was described by his father as “the happiest child in the world” who would “bring joy to everybody.” On the night of March 31, 2020, Jordan was on the second-story balcony of his father’s apartment in southwest Houston, Texas, making TikTok videos with his family.
Around 9 p.m., Jordan’s father, Jordan Allen Sr., stepped inside the apartment at 8155 Richmond Avenue to get his son some juice.
Suddenly, five to six gunshots rang out from the parking lot below. A stray bullet struck Jordan in the head. His father ran back to the balcony to find his son on the ground, holding his head and asking for help. Mr. Allen picked up his son and flagged down a passing ambulance.
Jordan was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital in critical condition. He was placed on life support, but his injuries were too severe. Three days later, on April 3, 2020, he passed away. Investigators determined that Jordan was an innocent victim, struck by a bullet that was not intended for him. A week after the shooting, police publicly identified three women as persons of interest.
The investigation led to an arrest over a year later. In August 2021, Shapree Monique Stoneham, then 30, was arrested and charged with felony murder. Police initially identified her as the shooter, but in a later court appearance, prosecutors accused her of being the driver of the vehicle used in the shooting.
In August 2023, authorities made a second arrest. Alexis Moshae Gore, 25, was taken into custody and also charged with felony murder. According to court documents, Gore was the one who fired the deadly shots, and she allegedly admitted her involvement to investigators.
At the time of Gore’s arrest, the Houston Police Department also announced they were seeking another person of interest, 34-year-old Jasmaine Janae Gore. As of August 2023, the case against the two charged women was proceeding through the court system while the search for the person of interest continued.
