Maximino Corral Jr., a 34-year-old Hispanic male, was found dead on August 15, 2020, in Canutillo, Texas. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to an unattended death in the 6900 block of Fifth Street, where they discovered Corral's body on the front porch of his home. A spent shotgun shell was found on the porch, and the county medical examiner determined that Corral had been killed by a shotgun blast to the abdomen.
The investigation into Corral's death was led by the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit, which identified two suspects: Charles Dominick Chamberlain, 27, and Jesse Ray Tilson, 28. Both men were arrested and charged with murder.
The investigation revealed that the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute over a woman. According to court documents, Tilson allegedly admitted to killing Corral because he believed Corral had been having sex with his girlfriend and had raped his ex-girlfriend. Witnesses corroborated Tilson's confession, stating that he had admitted to the killing and that Chamberlain had accompanied him. On the day of the murder, a witness reported giving a ride to Tilson and Chamberlain and dropping them off near Corral's home. The witness heard a loud gunshot-like bang and saw Tilson and Chamberlain return to the vehicle, with Tilson urging the driver to leave quickly.
During their interviews with detectives, Tilson and Chamberlain made several inconsistent statements. The investigation also revealed that Tilson had told Corral's friend about the killing the day after it occurred. The friend reported that Tilson and Chamberlain had rushed Corral's home and that Tilson had admitted to the shooting. The Sheriff's Office has not released any information regarding whether the alleged rape actually occurred. Both suspects were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on suspicion of murder.
