Joe Anthony Moreno, a 16-year-old male from Amarillo, Texas, tragically passed away on August 30, 2020, from a single gunshot wound. He was found dead inside an apartment in the 4100 block of SW 45th Avenue in south Amarillo. The incident occurred on the night of August 29, 2020, when officers responded to a medical call at the apartment complex.
Following the discovery of Moreno's body, detectives determined that 17-year-old Kelvin Keiyaun McGowan was the suspect in the shooting.
McGowan was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of murder. The Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Unit took over the investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet disclosed the motive or the nature of the relationship between Moreno and McGowan.
