On November 12, 2023, at approximately 5:45 p.m., 23-year-old Aung Oo was fatally shot in the parking lot of 6512 NE 12th Avenue in Amarillo, Texas. Upon arrival, officers found Oo outside his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.

The Amarillo Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation, identifying 25-year-old Aung Thuya as a person of interest. Surveillance footage from the neighborhood captured the incident, showing Thuya approaching Oo, drawing a firearm from his jacket, and shooting him multiple times before threatening Oo's passenger.

Following an intensive two-day investigation, authorities conducted surveillance on Thuya's residence. Once arrest and search warrants were secured, officers apprehended Thuya without incident. Subsequent searches of his home yielded crucial evidence related to the homicide. Thuya was charged with murder and booked into the Potter County Jail.

Further investigation revealed a prior altercation between Thuya and Oo's family. Court documents indicate that on March 7, 2022, Oo's brother, Aung Nai Myo, shot Thuya multiple times. Myo is currently incarcerated in the Potter County Jail, facing charges for an unrelated murder in August 2022, where he allegedly beat a man to death with a hammer.

In December 2023, a Potter County Grand Jury indicted Thuya on the murder charge for the death of Aung Oo. He remains in custody, awaiting trial.
