On the evening of March 30, 2015, African-American resident William Edwin Crume, 23, was seated in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Park Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. Alongside him in the front passenger seat was his girlfriend, 26-year-old Angelica Wysinger. Also present in the car were three children: Wysinger's nine-year-old daughter, a seven-year-old girl, and a two-year-old boy. At approximately 6:49 p.m., a silver vehicle approached their location, and an unknown assailant or assailants opened fire on the family's car.
The attack resulted in immediate and fatal injuries for Crume, who was struck multiple times in the head and upper torso. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Wysinger also sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her arm and hip. Although she showed signs of life when first responders arrived and was rushed to a nearby hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries. Her nine-year-old daughter, who was reportedly outside the vehicle when the shooting began, was struck in the hand by gunfire but survived the incident in stable condition. The other two children inside the vehicle were physically unharmed.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect's silver vehicle flee the scene, heading east on Park Avenue immediately after the shooting. Despite the collection of surveillance footage from nearby businesses and the efforts of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Division, investigators struggled to identify the individuals responsible. The car was described as being riddled with bullets, indicating the intensity of the violence directed at the couple and the children.
In the years following the double homicide, the case has remained unsolved. Police added the investigation to their list of cold cases, citing a lack of leads and witnesses willing or able to come forward with crucial information. Authorities and family members have made public appeals for tips, utilizing local CrimeStoppers programs to offer rewards for information leading to an arrest, but no suspects have been publicly named or charged in connection with the deaths of William Edwin Crume and Angelica Wysinger.
