On June 21, 2015, a violent incident unfolded in the North St. Louis neighborhood known as The Greater Ville, claiming the life of 21-year-old Edmond Deonta Dill. It was a Sunday afternoon, coinciding with Father’s Day, when police officers were summoned to the 4200 block of Lexington Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival at the scene, first responders discovered the young male victim suffering from a critical gunshot wound to his torso.
Witness accounts provided to investigators detailed a chaotic confrontation leading up to the shooting. Dill was reportedly being chased down West Lexington Avenue by an armed suspect who was firing shots at him during the pursuit. The chase ended when the victim was struck by the gunfire; he collapsed at the scene. Despite the arrival of emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a hospital.
Following the homicide, St. Louis Metropolitan Police launched an investigation, searching for the individual seen pursuing Dill. At the time of the initial reports, the suspect was described only as having fled the area immediately after the shooting.
